Boron

Boron is found in soil as a constituent of silicates, boric acid and borate ion. The latter can bind to both organic and inorganic compounds. It is washed out in soils with a light consistency, while in clayey soils there is practically no movement. Boron deficiency is greatest in dry periods and in the immediate aftermath. In plants, the element promotes the movement of sugars in the tissues and participates in their metabolism with the synthesis of sucrose and starch. Boron is also particularly important in the development of meristematic tissues; promotes the growth of root tips and elongation of the pollen casing, setting of flowers, cell division and protein synthesis.
